Should I leave a tip? If so how much?

Many clients are unsure if and/or how much they should tip their massage therapist. Tips are certainly not required but are seen as a wonderful gesture of appreciation to your massage therapist. FAQ

How does an infrared sauna work?

The idea behind infrared therapy is to heat your body directly with infrared heat. In a traditional sauna you are just sitting in a hot room, 180-220 degrees. In an infrared sauna, the heat is heating your body directly and 20% of the heat is heating the air. You want to heat your body core, meaning your front core and your back core. Your body absorbs the infrared heat and reacts to it. The infrared heat raises your core body temperature and stimulates your lymphatic system, immune system and your cardiovascular system. Your body’s response to that is to sweat profusely. In addition to the infrared heat triggering a profuse sweat, the water in our body also resonates with far infrared heat and this also helps with the detoxification process. Our sessions are 30 or 45 minutes in a private room. All our saunas have Chromotherapy and acoustic resonance therapy at no extra cost. You can customize your sauna experience by choosing near, mid or far infrared rays.

Is infrared heat safe?

Infrared heat is completely safe and all objects give off and receive infrared heat. In fact, it is so safe, hospitals use similar heaters to warm newborns. Infrared is a part of nature, the same kind of heat as the sun, and essential for life.

What do I need to bring?

You don’t need to bring anything. We will provide you with a robe, shower slippers, one cool hand towel, towels for after showering, a snack, and as much water as you can drink. Other refreshing beverages are available for purchase.

How often should I come in?

We suggest at least once a week, however it is safe to come up to several times a week, depending on personal goals.

How long should I sit in the sauna?

We offer our sauna sessions for intervals of 30 and 45 minutes. Many people find that 30 minutes is adequate, but if you are a “sauna veteran” you may want to go for the full 45 minutes. We recommend that you take breaks if needed, listen to your body and honor what you are feeling.

What is Chromotherapy?

Chromotherapy a non-invasive light therapy that heals with color. Light Therapy has been a great source of healing through history. Color Light therapy is a technique of restoring imbalance by means of applying color to the body. Its history is rooted as far back as the Mayan culture.  Light Therapy has been valued throughout history as a remarkable source of healing. Today, the therapeutic applications of light and color are being investigated in major hospitals and research centers worldwide. Results indicate that full-spectrum, ultraviolet, colored, and laser light can have therapeutic value for a range of conditions from chronic pain and depression to immune disorders.

What is Acoustic Resonance Therapy?

Acoustic Resonance Therapy (A.R.T.), creates an environment for the body to experience the benefits of sound and vibration healing in an integrative way – part of a holistic approach to healthy living. Feeling the music we hear brings our bodies into harmony physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually and environmentally. SO Sound® combines the healing effects of sound and vibration to harmonize all systems of the body bringing you to a deeper state of relaxation. Attached at specific locations in the sauna, the SO Sound® system uses an amplified audio signal to resonate sound waves to the surface of the sauna. Listening to soothing music and feeling it resonate throughout the body stimulates the body’s natural relaxation response. It feels like light touch massage during your sauna session.

How do I know what type of infrared rays are best for me?

Near Infrared – Near infrared (NIR) is the shortest infrared wavelength and penetrates the skin’s surface more effectively than the other two, which is why it’s a popular choice for anti-aging. Scientific research shows that when delivered at the vital wavelength of 880nm without extreme heat or light, NIR promotes skin renewal, cell health, wound healing, and tissue growth.

Mid Infrared – Mid infrared (MIR) is a longer wavelength that can penetrate deeper into the body’s soft tissue where inflammation occurs. MIR helps expand blood vessels and increases circulation, so more oxygen can reach injured areas of the body. This reduces pain and speeds the healing process.

Far Infrared – The longest wavelength, far infrared (FIR), reaches deepest into the body, where toxins are stored. By raising your core body temperature, FIR stimulates the sweat glands, resulting in a deep, detoxifying sweat that leaves you feeling revitalized. Plus, since sweating increases heart rate, cardiac output, and metabolic rate, you’re also burning calories.

Will I lose just water weight?

You are going to be sweating out water by using infrared heat technology to burn calories. Infrared saunas are clinically shown to aid weight loss. During a sauna weight loss session, core temperatures increase.  The body has to work hard to cool itself, causing a healthy sweat.  Using an infrared sauna increases heart rate, cardiac output and metabolic rate, burning more calories; leading to more weight loss, and blood flow also rises, increasing from 5-7 quarts up to 13 quarts a minute. Plus, regular use of our saunas may provide many of the same benefits as regular exercise, such as cardiovascular conditioning.

Are the saunas clean and sterile?

Yes, Infrared light kills all bacteria and many airborne germs and fungus.  Many medical devices are sterilized using infrared light. Saunas are also sanitized after each session.

Should I shower after using the sauna?

It is your personal preference. Some people choose not to, as you continue to sweat out toxins even after you get out of the sauna, but others choose to leave feeling clean rather than sweaty.

Should I eat or drink before I arrive?

For ideal results, we suggest not eating one hour before your sauna session. It is important to hydrate before, during and after your session.

Why am I not sweating?

Just as with exercise or eating healthy, sauna use takes time and consistency to see results. You may not sweat the first few times you use your sauna, but know that sweating (and the detox that comes with it) will increase over time, leaving you feeling rejuvenated and healthy. After using regularly and still not sweating to your body’s potential, there could be other factors at play. Are you drinking enough water? Are you only hydrating on days you know you will sit in the sauna? It is recommended that you drink half your body weight in ounces.

Can I completely disrobe in the sauna?

Since the sauna is totally private, feel free to completely disrobe or wrap just a towel around you. Many people get completely naked before stepping into the sauna. Since you’ll be sweating a lot, the sweat would simply soak your clothes if you wore them in. If you don’t feel comfortable being naked in the sauna, take your clothes off and wrap a clean towel around you. You should also remove jewelry or watches before you go in since these can heat up and get covered in sweat.

Do I get some money back if I can’t sit the full time I paid for?

No, for scheduling purposes we do not issue refunds if you can’t sit the entire duration that you scheduled. We recommend you take breaks, drink water, wrap a cold towel around your head and get back in once you’ve cooled off.
